A teoria da evolução foi co-descoberta independentemente por dois biólogos que viveram no mesmo período de tempo. Darwin e Wallace eram bem conhecidos em seu tempo, mas o nome de Wallace foi gradualmente ofuscado por Darwin. Hoje raramente (quase nunca) ouvimos o nome Alfred Russell Wallace.
